One of the secret truths of parenting a large family is the poignant grief experienced among siblings when the older ones move onto the next stage of life, leaving the younger ones behind. The entire atmosphere changes. Conversations, volume, interactions–– these all shift. Almost no one talks about it and so I endeavor to do so, the same as I have with infant loss and divorce. The hard things in life are common to all of us and when we encounter familiar experience within one another, we see God.
