I bought my first baby chicks for a photo shoot at Easter. It was 2003 and I had a small photography business photographing children in natural light. I purchased three chicks that made excellent models and the kids loved them. Dogs got two of them as juveniles but one survived. Her name was Lucy and she thought she was a guard animal who also happened to lay eggs. She always let us know when anyone was near our yard who wasn't one of the family.
I've always loved keeping chickens. Gathering eggs is exciting and eating them is a true pleasure. There's no egg as golden rich as a free range egg grown by a very happy chicken. My favorites to keep were Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds. They were big, sweet birds. Feathered friends.
"Barred Rock" is in progress, acrylic on canvas flat panel. It will be available as an original and as prints.
